New: the SERP Tracker desktop app

Desktop computer on a wooden desk in a home office

The SERP Tracker desktop app runs your checks in clean, logged-out Chrome windows on your own computer, with no sign-in, cookies or search history, and sends the results to your account. It’s free on every plan, and it works alongside our servers, not instead of them.

Why we built it

Every SERP Tracker check is a live Google search. On our servers, that search comes from a data centre. Google is more cautious with data-centre traffic, so it asks for CAPTCHAs more often, and a check has to pause until one is solved.

The desktop app adds a layer on top of the same check:

  • The same clean check. Each search still runs in a logged-out Chrome session, in the country, language and city you set, exactly as it does on our servers.
  • A real visitor’s connection. Searches go out over your home or office internet. To Google that looks like an ordinary visitor, so searches go through with fewer CAPTCHAs.
  • A person on hand. If Google still asks “I’m not a robot”, the Chrome window comes to the front and you solve it in seconds, so the check finishes instead of waiting.

The result is fewer interrupted checks and more complete history, especially for large projects and frequent checks.

How it works with our servers

You don’t need to change any settings. Checks run on our servers by default. When the app is open and connected, your checks switch to it automatically. When you close it, or your computer is off, they switch back to our servers while your weekly allowance lasts. Both run the check the same way, so your results stay consistent wherever a check runs. AI prompt checks (ChatGPT and Gemini) always run on our servers, app or no app.

Results, screenshots and history appear on your dashboard as usual, and your clients see nothing different.

Setting it up

  1. Buy a plan or start free, then sign in and open Desktop app.
  2. Click Download for Windows. The download is personal to your account, so there’s nothing to type.
  3. Extract the zip and double-click Install.bat.
  4. The SERP Tracker Desktop icon appears on your desktop. Keep it open and press Run check on the website.

The app can start with Windows, so checks run whenever your computer is on.

Who should use it

We recommend the app for anyone who checks often: frequent checks, large keyword lists, or several cities. Checks in the app don’t count toward your plan’s weekly allowance of server checks, so they’re unlimited. If you check a small project now and then, our servers handle it fine on their own.

Questions

Does it use my own Chrome profile? No. Checks open in their own clean, logged-out Chrome window, so your browsing history, bookmarks and signed-in accounts aren’t used.

Does it work on Mac? Not yet. The app is for Windows 10 and 11.
